About CCKenpo Classes
Tigers and Dragons (Ages 4-6)
Tigers - An beginner level class distinguished by yellow & black (Tiger) belts which signify the accomplishment of the basic skills. This level adds progressively more difficult coordination of hands and feet, balance, timing and flexibility. Each class is 45 minutes in length and is structured to teach physical, mental as well as social skills. We strive to build coordination, concentration and confidence in each student through disciplined classroom activities and individualized goal setting. Class size is limited to enable each child to reach their full potential.
Little Dragons - a more advanced class designed to challenge and stimulate each child to progress further beyond the Little Tigers program and prepare them for the regular Junior Yellow Belt classes. Wearing yellow & red (Dragon) belts, this group adds fine motor coordination, strength, agility and an introduction to self-defense techniques. Having developed a strong foundation of basics in the Little Tigers program, they are now ready to begin learning Kenpo terminology and more detailed movements. At this level, we recommend 2 classes per week; at least one of which will group them with the older children. This serves to gradually introduce them into the Junior classes.
These classes are still 45 minutes in length and structured according to their developing attention spans.

Juniors (Ages 7-12)
This program is designed to teach preteen children the basic concepts of Kenpo. The class is more focused on the physical aspects of the art. Activities like sparring, practicing self-defense techniques, and striking target pads build the student's fitness level as well as giving them confidence building positive reinforcement.
The self-defense skills taught at this level keep in mind that the student is still a child. Unlike the adult curriculum we do not teach children strikes to the eyes, temple, or throat. At the beginner levels children do not have the ability to differentiate between the school yard bully and someone breaking into their house. As the student transitions into the higher belts they begin to learn these strikes and the proper situations to use them in.
The Juniors class makes use of the Stars program which is a positive reinforcement award in between belts. Because our students earn their belts sometimes there is a couple month span where the student is in between belts. To fill this void of feeling accomplished we have small rewards the students can earn.
Red Stars are responsibility stars. Students can earn them through being responsible at home.
Gold Stars are academic stars. Students can earn these through being on honor roll and having good grades.
Blue Stars are masters stars. Students earn these by appropriate behavior during class.
This class prepares the student for the transition into the adult class.

Adults (Ages 13+)
In this program you will learn a self-defense oriented curriculum to prepare you for any street conflict. Our goal is to produce students not only able to avoid potentially bad situations but to be able to defend themselves physically if necessary. Unlike most martial arts schools you will not have to do any ridiculous jump kicks or be pressed into competing in tournaments. Our focus is self-defense and for that we want you to be able to defend yourself, not force you into training for a giant trophy. The skills you will learn will work on anyone regardless of your size or theirs.
No magic, no flashy kicks, just real self-defense skills for a real world.

Ground/Grappling (Ages 16+)
Almost all one on one fights end up of the ground. This can be a very dangerous situation ecspecially when you add multiple attackers. At CCKenpo we are aware of the dangers of ground work and have a specially designed class for solving this problem. Our approach to ground fighting is not to attempt to hold the person in a lock and wait for them to tapout. We believe that striking is the best defense and so we work a "ground and pound" approach to grappling. If you are taken to the ground you hit the person until you can throw them off of you.
This class is great for anyone looking to deepen their self-defense skills or prepare for a MMA match up.

Weapons (Ages 13+)
The days of back-alley fist fights are over. Now you are almost gaurenteed that your attacker has a weapon. Carroll County Kenpo's weapons course is designed to teach the student:
- How to respond to a weapon attack
- How to utilize weapons in your enviroment/possession
This course focuses on the AKKI Universal Weapons system teaching the Knife and Club curriculum for certification. The course also investigates using enviroment as your weapon, anything from walls to hair-brushes, when it comes to needing a weapon you will be able to find one.

Women's Self-Defense (Ages 13+)
The Women's Self-Defense program is a course in realistic, simple self-defense strategies. This courses curriculum is based on the principles we teach in our standard Kenpo courses but is concentrated to focus more on self-defense and less on general martial arts. Unlike many other local self-defense programs we do not limit our students to a set number of movements, we teach how to make the first strike count then follow up until the attacker is neutralized.
Our goal is to empower you!
